Hospital Charity inviting the public to help raise money

By Times Reporter in Community News

THIS Spring, Southend Hospital Charity is inviting members of the public to help raise money for the ward or department of the hospital of their choice and its Dementia Appeal in one of three ways.

First up, is a stroll down the 1.33 miles of Southend Pier on Sunday, April 30 at 10am and help raise money for Southend Hospital’s Dementia Appeal. Now in its 15th year and organised by Rotary Club of Leigh, the event often brings people out in their hundreds. And this year also marks the 10th year it has supported Southend Hospital.

Prices for taking part are £5 for adults, £2.50 for children or family tickets, which cover two adults and one or more children aged 16 or under, are priced at £12.

Walking of a different kind is next, abseiling down the side of the 154 foot tall Tower Block at Southend Hospital. No experience is necessary to tackle the tower and it is open to everyone over the age of 16. The event takes place on Saturday, May 13 and the entry fee is £40 plus minimum sponsorship of £100 for a ward or department of your choice.

Finally, there is an oar-some challenge for those intrepid land lubbers wanting to take to water. All you have to do is build and sail a raft in this year’s Southend Raft Race, which takes place on Sunday,June 25. Entry for eight people is £200, which goes to Rotary Charities, with additional sponsorship going to the hospital.

Any interest in any of the above events should be directed to the fundraising team on 01702 385337 or email
