SGT Lucy Bearman, Pc Darren Wooderson, Pc Nicola Drake and Pc Chris Perry saved a man who had rushed into the sea while distressed.

Our officers from Southend Local Policing Team were on duty near the seafront when they were dispatched to a call about a man in distress.

They headed in the direction of the seafront to carry out a search. After searching for a short amount of time, they located him near the seafront rather distressed. As they attempted to help him, he ran into the water. Without a thought for their own safety, Sergeant Lucy Bearman and her colleagues waded into the sea and brought him back to shore.

The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and left in the care of health professionals to receive treatment.

Sergeant Lucy Bearman, of Southend Local Policing Team, said: β€œIt was nice to be able to get the gentlemen the help he needed and prevent him causing any harm to himself. I was proud of the officers present for the teamwork they showed and for making a real difference. I hope their boots dry out soon!”
