Ferry Service Between Sheppey and Southend

By Times Reporter in Community News

A NEW ferry service is set to open up between Southend and the Isle of Sheppey.

Jetstream tours are opening up a new route, with a trial journey on Monday, August 28, using a Catamaran.

If it proves popular it could be a new lease of life to the estuary for holidaymakers and residents alike.

The project was the brainchild of Dave Wilcock, of Sheppey.

Ann Holland, councillor responsible for culture, tourism and the economy, believes that the service could open up job opportunities in Southend for people from the island, using the ferry as a commuting service.

The proposed ferry could cut a three-hour car journey down to 40 minutes.

This would see the estuary opened up again as a place for passenger traffic, as it was in the early days of pleasure steamboats, which regularly stopped at the end of the Pier.
